Interview: Turkish journalist rejects false Western media reports about China's Xinjiang region

"They eat altogether. There are dance shows there," Akkoc said. "People are not only going to work and coming back home. There are real social activities going on. We've seen this in all the three cities."

He also saw "a kind of calmness" prevail in the places he visited.

"People are peaceful," he said. "There is no significant disturbance in public and peace predominates."

"The central government of China is focused on the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region," he said. "We had the chance to get information about some new projects. A massive development process is going on there."

"Now in the training centers, there is great modernization," the Turkish journalist said. "They highlight the law. The trainees say, 'We learn what is law, what is a crime and what is not a crime.' They highlight the importance of science. They feature scientific methods in all areas."

"Everyone learns a profession," he continued. "The centers are tremendous employment stores. The unemployment has declined significantly compared with three years ago. Nearly 20 professions are taught at the centers."
