Lidia Irma Fagale, rotating chairwoman of the Belt and Road Journalists Network (BRJN), president of the Union of Journalists of Buenos Aires, expressed support for China’s fight against the novel coronavirus epidemic, on behalf of the Union of Journalists of Buenos Aires, with a statement sent to All-China Journalists Association.

The following is the full statement.

The Union of Journalists of Buenos Aires and the leadership committee voice support for the Chinese government and people in fighting against the novel coronavirus outbreak.

China’s efficient actions in combating the epidemic has been recognized by the international community. We highly appreciate the efforts China has made, which is not only responsible to the Chinese society, but also to the people of the world.

In this sense, we emphasize the need for greater solidarity and collaboration among different parties in a global effort to tackle this common challenges in health and information management.

What is required amid the epidemic is action rather than conjectures. Rumors and manipulations driven by certain interested parties could stoke baseless panic and seriously impede the effective implementation of prevention and control policies. Rumors could even do more harm than the epidemic itself.

Therefore, the Union of Journalists of Buenos Aires promises to deliver accurate and truthful information on data and policies to our union members and the media.

Rumors and pure conjectures on some media and social media platforms are against the spirit of solidarity. We are convinced that China will win in containing the epidemic and spreading truthful information, and contribute to the future well-being of mankind.
